We first saw Briar Rose in a quiet country house in Oxfordshire which has a remarkable collection of valuable paintings.  Su Yen likes to call it Sleeping Beauty, and indeed that is the legend.

Here is a little of what Su Yen wrote at the time. If you would like to read more you can in Su Yen’s lovely book ‘Dear Su Yen’.

“My eyes stopped glimpsing around and stayed directly on the picture of the princess sleeping on her bed; her friends are sweetly asleep in the room around her. She looks so happy and peaceful. The colours are very subdued and restful, but they are not dull. Around the picture the briars grow; so many thorns, but lovely flowers too.

I so envy that princess: If I could sleep for one night I would be happy. I bought a postcard of her sleeping and I keep it beside my bed. I hoped it would help me to sleep. It doesn’t, but still, it is very beautiful and I look at it every night.”                                (Dear Su Yen, page 117)

You can purchase 'Dear Suyen' in paperback for just £9.99 or hardcover for £12.50.
